The regular search API works for schemas, at least (example <https://www.wikidata.org/w/api.php?action=query&list=search&srsearch=human&srnamespace=640&format=json&formatversion=2>), though admittedly that’s not as well suited for a “type-ahead search” as wbsearchentities is.
