I have written an implementation draft: https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/c/mediawiki/extensions/Wikisource/+/793867 It follows @Ltrlg approach (thank you!) with a slight tweak to avoid having to guess the item kind (work vs edition). The code looks first for the sibling editions (editions of the current item work item) using P629 <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/P629>+P747 <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/P747> and, then, if there is no single sitelink for the language it uses the work item sitelinks (P629 <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/P629>) and, if not, finally, the edition items sitelinks (P747 <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/P747>).
