TASK DESCRIPTION I seem to recall that until very recently, properties using the Commons media data type would refuse to save the statement if you tried to link to a non-existent file. Over the past few days, however, I've noticed a lot of edits for non-existent files, because it doesn't seem to be checking that the file exists before saving. I tested it here - https://www.wikidata.org/w/index.php?title=Q4115189&diff=253493005&oldid=253457577 - by typing a URL and clicking save.
