I think you misunderstand the nature of the RDF data representation. In RDF, triples are composed of values, which are either URIs or strings. Wikibase items are referred to by URIs, like http://www.wikidata.org/entity/Q42 (as do most other things, since only URIs can be subjects of triples, strings only can be objects). This is what is stored in the database, and in any RDF representation. This URL is completely opaque to the engine, it does not know it represents item named Q2 on site named "Wikidata". In order to extract this information, you need something like functions above. The values in this case are full identifiers, not just Q-ids.
