Hi Leo,

People in high places need to be convinced of the value of sharing and
of citizen freedom to cooperate. Some of the points made in this
document (under development) might help with the convincing:

This document is based on work by a collection of activists working
towards a free culture:

http://fcforum.net/

In my opinion, their approach is too confrontational and they would do
better to work _with_ the authorities towards common goals (e.g.
sustainability and improving quality of life ...). There are signs
they are moving in this direction.

In China, this might be a real challenge! But my understanding is that
the country is big enough to permit multiple models of governance in
different areas - experiments which may be replicated if they prove
positive.

Would it make sense to set up equivalent sites within China with terms
of use that are compatible with national values? e.g. in universities
or on public sites with specific foci (e.g. job creation, environment,
water, ...).

e.g. an equivalent of Twitter may be set up which uses the free/libre
software (free as in freedom) with http://status.net/ (e.g. http://identi.ca/
).

If anyone knows of other types of free/libre social software, I'll be
grateful for additions to this list:

Thanks

Kim
