An historic event for our philanthropic OER collaboration in widening
access to more affordable education especially for learners excluded from
the formal education sector.

The OERu is preparing for our official launch on 1 November 2013. Sir John
Daniel will officiate at the launch event during the 2nd meeting of anchor
partners to be hosted at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, Canada.

We will be hosting the inaugural meeting of the OERu Council of Chief
Executive Officers at Kwantlen Polytechnic University on 5 November. We
will also be allocating quality time to addressing the challenges
associated with international course articulation at a meeting convened by
the UNESCO-COL OER Chairs at the headquarters of the Commonwealth of
Learning on 4 November 2013.

The accolade of OERu anchor partner is reserved for recognised institutions
who join our international collaboration of "like minded" institutions *
before* the official launch.

Our innovation partnership spans five continents representing universities
and polytechnics who are working together to leverage OER for more
affordable education alternatives with pathways to achieve formal academic
credit. The implementation of the OERu is also a designated project of the
UNESCO OER Chair network.

I look forward to announcing four new university partners in the weeks
leading up to our launch. Watch this space ...

If your institution would like to join our efforts in responding to the
challenges of social inclusion in the higher education sector as an OERu
anchor partner -- you need to act fast. (For more information see: 5 Things
you should know about the OER university network

)*. *

True to the OER Foundation's philosophy of open philanthropy, our 2nd
meeting of OERu anchor partners will be streamed live with opportunities
for virtual participants to contribute to our planning activities during
the breakout sessions. You can register as a remote
participant<http://wikieducator.org/OER_university/OERu_13.10_Meeting/Virtual_participants>
to
receive email updates on how to participate.

Don't be missed by your absence -- help us plan for more sustainable and
affordable education futures using open education approaches.
