The big problem is that it's pretty obvious WMF could legally obliterate Federico and John, and pointing the legal equivalent of an M1 Abrams tank at them - as you have - does give the impression that this is the aim.
I suggest, however, that this would not only fail to win hearts and minds, but would in fact lose many. As such, the WMF's approach might benefit from consideration in this regard.
