Dear all, I am writing to inform you that the Wikimedia Foundation Governance Committee has appointed a new Elections Committee [1]. The Elections Committee assists “with the design and implementation of the process to select Community- and Affiliate-Selected Trustees for the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees” [2], and reports to the Governance Committee.
The Elections Committee currently has eight voting members and four advisory members. All voting members <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Foundation_elections_committee#Current_members> have the same term dates, starting on June 1, 2023, and ending on May 31, 2026. In consultation with support staff and the Elections Committee, it was decided that the committee would work best if it had staggered terms so that the full committee does not rotate off at the same time. As part of the preparation for the 2025 Board selection process, the Board liaisons to the Elections Committee reached out to each committee member. They asked if they would like to continue as voting members and renew their commitment to the work. We also contacted the four advisory members and asked if they would be willing to move into a voting member position and take on the increased responsibility of voting. One voting member asked to step down to an advisory role, while the four advisory members consented to move to become voting members. The Elections Committee then voted on the slate and made a recommendation to the Governance Committee.
