Ramya just posted a summary of map feature names in Indic languages [1] on
the OpenStreetMap Project which powers the new Wikimedia Maps [2].

In India, the Kannada community has been the most active by far adding over
32,000 feature lablels and have even created an interactive map of the
world [3] which is the first of its kind for any Indic language. Hindi is a
distant second with over 2,000 feature names.

If you are interested to view maps in your language try out the
multilingual map tool [4]. You can also make quick maps using existing OSM
data using Overpass [5] and export the data.

Localized maps like this are still largely experimental and need a lot of
work. It would be great to see more Wikimedians involved in leveraging this
open map data for local Wiki projects. One can contribute to the map by
editing http://osm.org

Hit me up if anyone would like help with OpenStreetMap. i have been mapping
for over 8 years now and know the ecosystem fairly well.
