Sadly, haven't had time to play around with it and now your saying it's using Google's OCR bits is sadder. I do remember though, that about a year or two ago, there were some negotiations being held between wikimedia and Google to foss some of the unicode bits from Google. I don't remember the entire conversation but do recall there was some talk of Google using the Apache License or something.
