We are excited to announce the release of Wikifile-transfer v2, an enhanced
tool to streamline media transfers across Wikimedia projects.
Wikifile-transfer supports users in moving non-free images across wiki
projects, making it easier to specify a source URL, target project,
language, and filename. This tool is helpful for contributors managing
media across multiple language wikis.

Key Updates in v2:

*• Expanded Wiki Support: *Now compatible with 340 Wikipedia, 171
Wiktionaries, 77 Wikibooks, 74 Wikiquotes, 78 Wikisources, and more.
*• Wikimedia Commons Integration:* Users can now transfer free-licensed
files to Wikimedia Commons.
*• Enhanced File Upload Interface:*  We’ve redesigned the file upload
template to integrate a text editor, making it easier to customize template
information and content directly within the tool.
*• Large File Handling:* Seamless support for large file transfers via
background jobs ensures smooth, uninterrupted processing.
*• Database Stability Fix:* A persistent database error has been resolved,
improving data handling and reliability.
*• Frontend Rebuilt in ReactJS:* The frontend has been overhauled in
ReactJS, enhancing performance, maintainability, and modularity.
*• Modern UI with Material Design:* A new UI designed with Material Design
principles offers an intuitive and visually cohesive user experience.
*• i18n Support on Frontend: *Internationalization (i18n) now allows users
to navigate the tool in multiple languages, broadening accessibility.
*• Backend Refactor and Rewrite: *A complete backend rewrite ensures better
efficiency, readability, and long-term maintainability.
*• Improved Developer Experience: *Docker integration streamlines setup and
provides an efficient development environment.
*• Deployment on Python’s 3.11 in Toolforge:* The tool now runs on
Toolforge’s latest Python version, boosting performance and security.
