The average time it takes me to redeem an Amazon voucher is under a month. I can say from experience I hang on to John Lewis vouchers for a lot longer before needing to buy a cushion ;)
I agree with that Amazon vouchers are potentially problematic, but they're also a lot more useful than many other options due to sheer ubiquity, and I think people appreciate the sense that they can be used for books & don't require offline use. It's a trade-off... A.
