Sandbox Sessions are volunteer-led events organised and supported by Wikimedia UK. All are welcome to attend! These workshops are intended to be a chance for our community to learn about different areas of the Wiki-verse, find out something new, and connect with other Wikimedians. *Improving Wikipedia Articles - Achieving Featured Article Status*Date: Thursday 29th October

You may have contributed to one of these campaigns before and have wondered what is needed to get these initiatives running. This session will provide practical advice on running campaigns on Wikipedia and Wikimedia campaigns and will be useful for anyone who is interested in doing so but doesn’t know where to get started. Participants will learn: - What goes on “behind the scenes” when organising campaigns and what skills (such as project management) are useful - Lessons we learned from our experiences organising Wiki Science and EiffelWomen - How to get permissions or use basic Wiki event tools About the presenters Joanne is a volunteer trainer for Wikimedia UK and enjoys editing English Wikipedia on topics related to women's history through WikiProject Women in Red and on biodiversity policy. Last year, with Lucy Moore, she co-organised the UK's first Wiki Science Competition since 2019, held on Wikimedia Commons. Ceryl Evans (pronounced Kerril) aka MumphingSquirrel, has been editing Wikipedia since 2018, mostly around historical women - you do have to be dead for her to write about you. In January 2026, she was sent a link to an article about the plan to add the names of 72 Women in Science to the Eiffel Tower, to join the names of 72 men inscribed there when it was built in 1889. Ceryl organised her first on-Wiki editathon event Eiffel Women <https://eu-west-1.protection.sophos.com/?d=wikipedia.org&u=aHR0cHM6Ly9lbi53aWtpcGVkaWEub3JnL3dpa2kvRXZlbnQ6RWlmZmVsV29tZW4=&i=NjVhZmE0ZjY3MDExZmY1Y2Q3NDE3Yjhk&t=YlFPb1NHZjBlQTk0MWhheEJ2SXFmeEFYSVJRc0JSQzAyWTBPK1pqVzBrST0=&h=75aee99a6e754ba98bdf862a4db75964&s=AVNPUEhUT0NFTkNSWVBUSVa-wjzB7fRNoOhu5Qd0EzUVHNZKnzPzVZUwidaN_jIozA> - with lots of help from Wikimedia UK - which led to 13 editors making 2,472 edits in 10 weeks. She will be sharing her learning curve on managing a long running editathon and some of the unexpected bonus outcomes from the event.
