I hope this email finds you well. I am sending out this email to share some
updates related to the planning of WikiConference India 2025. However,
before I do, it is necessary that I introduce myself. I am Shakuntala, a
contributor to Santali Wikimedia projects since 2019. I am volunteering as
a Core Organizing Team member for WikiConference India 2025

Background:
In June 2024, some former COT members of WCI 2023 initiated discussions
about hosting WikiConference India 2025. After those initial discussions,
an announcement was made on the Wikimedia India mailing list to inform
Wikimedians that WCI25 discussions have begun. This was then followed by
further conversations during the South Asia Open Community Calls

Following the community calls, a survey was opened for over 3 weeks. It
received 59 responses, among which a majority responded in support of
organising WCI25.
A grant proposal

was submitted on 10th September, and then a few more volunteers showed
interest in joining the organising team. CIS-A2K has offered their full
support to work for the success of the upcoming WCI.
WikiConference India 2025 is tentatively scheduled to take place in
September or October 2025. Announcements inviting volunteers to join the
organising team were shared via email and on South Asia Open Community Call

held on 21 July 2024. The interested volunteers met twice in virtual
meetings, where they discussed the conference and engaged in brainstorming
sessions to generate ideas and plan next steps. The first call, held on
September 8, had four volunteers. A second call followed on 24 September
2024, drew a larger group of volunteers, including me. The call summaries

Call For Action:
Currently, the organising team is working on some major tasks, such as
deciding a venue city and engaging a larger community. Although a location
is listed in the proposal (as a placeholder), we have outlined a process on
Meta

to decide the location of WCI25, with the current COT members and the
larger Indic community.
The submissions for suggestions regarding the venue are open till 26th
October 2024. Following the discussions on Meta, the selection group
comprising members of COT WCI25 will decide the final venue for the
conference.
The WCI 2025 organizing team is working collectively to establish processes
and workflows for the successful execution of the conference. More
volunteers are welcome as we make progress with the major workflows.
