At the beginning, Lua is far from easy for a willing user; I have some js and python experience, nevertheless I found first steps very hard and sometimes very frustrating. I incourage any of you really geek to convert into Lua some very simple templates; some from Lua scripts written by experts are simply discouraging for a beginner.
Therefore, my suggestion is to begin the adventure of "shared wikisource scripts" with the most banal ones.
