Latest *tech news <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Tech/News>* from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Tech/News/2023/44> are available. *Recent changes* - The Structured Content team, as part of its project of improving UploadWizard on Commons <https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:WMF_support_for_Commons/Upload_Wizard_Improvements>, made some UX improvements to the upload step of choosing own vs not own work (T347590 <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T347590>), as well as to the licensing step for own work (T347756 <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T347756>). - The Design Systems team has released version 1.0.0 of Codex <https://doc.wikimedia.org/codex/latest/>, the new design system for Wikimedia. See the full announcement about the release of Codex 1.0.0 <https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Design_Systems_Team/Announcing_Codex_1.0> . *Changes later this week* - The new version <https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki_1.42/wmf.3> of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 31 October. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 1 November. It will be on all wikis from 2 November (calendar <https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki_1.42/Roadmap>). - Listings on category pages are sorted on each wiki for that language using a library <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/en:International_Components_for_Unicode>. For a brief period on 2 November, changes to categories will not be sorted correctly for many languages. This is because the developers are upgrading to a new version of the library. They will then use a script to fix the existing categories. This will take a few hours or a few days depending on how big the wiki is. You can read more <https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Wikimedia_Technical_Operations/ICU_announcement>. [1] <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T345561>[2] <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T267145> - Starting November 1, the impact module (Special:Impact) will be upgraded by the Growth team. The new impact module shows newcomers more data regarding their impact on the wiki. It was tested by a few wikis during the last few months. [3] <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T336203> *Future changes* - There is a proposed plan <https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Extension:Graph/Plans#Roadmap> for re-enabling the Graph Extension. You can help by reviewing this proposal and sharing what you think about it <https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension_talk:Graph/Plans#c-PPelberg_(WMF)-20231020221600-Update:_20_October> . - The WMF is working on making it possible for administrators to edit MediaWiki configuration directly <https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Community_configuration_2.0>. This is similar to previous work on Special:EditGrowthConfig. A technical RfC is running until November 08, where you can provide feedback. <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T349757> *Tech news <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Tech/News> prepared by Tech News writers <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Tech/News/Writers> and posted by bot <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/User:MediaWiki_message_delivery> • Contribute <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Tech/News#contribute> • Translate <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Tech/News/2023/44> • Get help <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Tech> • Give feedback <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:Tech/News> • Subscribe or unsubscribe <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Global_message_delivery/Targets/Tech_ambassadors>.*
