It's certainly technically possible. Here's a small demo page:

  http://www.princexml.com/howcome/2012/runic/

At first glance, it seems like the use of SVG to depict runes on pages
like this:

  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Runic

can be replaced by using Junicode as a webfont.
