Hi Folks

Read below for problem but for others here is the solution?

Following Bob's advice I typed in IE4UINIT.EXE and "something" happened.
What exactly I don't know because there was "QuickLaunch" in 3 places in
appdata\microsoft\internet explorer.

However, the other two suggestions didn't work because the computer couldnt
find
>>REGSVR32 /i SHELL32.DLL
>>
>>REGSVR32 /i BROWSEUI.DLL

and told me no such file name begining with "i". Anyway, I found the two
dll's lurking in Windows\system32 so all Ok there.

The original "run" command must have created "QuickLaunch" in my settings
so I copied all the QL shortcuts from the first instance that wasn't
working to the new one. A bit of jiggery-pokery with the visual bit on the
task-bar (kept going double size and things on the right ended on the
left???) and now it appears to be Ok - well it's there and working.

Another problem lurking was the dissapearance of FAVORITES. On the laptop
I found favorites in 4 places - the first 3 were in all users, admin & my
settings and none had any shortcuts or folders except one which appeared to
be kosher as they say.

When running IE from the laptop I asked it the properties of "shared Links"
(a folder sitting there in every instance of favorites) and it told me
Favorites was located on C:\Windows

Huh! Copied all my shortcuts to C:\Windows\Favorites\New Folder and "crash
bang wallop" favorites back to where thay should be.

Thanks again and I'll keep Bob's letter and my solution in a safe place for
next time - there will be a next time...!
