I was going to do Novell Netware until I heard about
Samba running on Unix.  It's rock steady, and doesn't
cost anything.

It took a bit of studying to figure out how to get
everything going.  In order not to have reinvent
the wheel everytime I put together a server, I
compiled a step-by-step cheat sheet.  Grab an
old desktop to test this on--you'll likely be up
and running fairly quickly:
