I recently purchased a Pioneer DVD RW +- and have used it as a second CD player so far. I'd like to use it as a DVD player and even record stuff with it. Possibly even rip a CD or DVD if that isn't a lawless act. When I put a borrowed commercial DVD in the drive it boots with some other player that I'd as soon not use. Is there a way to just play it with Windows Media Player? Do I need a new suite of software to record and playback DVDs? Is there software available for cheap or free that I could use to record and playback DVDs? If not free what do you recommend as good value for an honest dollar?
You didn't happen to mention what that other player or the OS is ? Windows Media Player will play DVDs but not record. Many DVD player/recorders come with a version of Nero that would suffice quite nicely for burning.
