When I learned about it, the friend that has one, was after a couple 
of drinks and told me he paid $100.  But since the party was at his

I personally have not used either.  Still in the (slow) USB mode.  I 
did hear about USB2 being slower in practice, than Firewire.  Did 
some digging and found that the USB protocol is a bit less efficient, 
but it was on the order of few %.  There were also some early 
implementations of USB2 that had problems.  So I'm puzzled that many 
people report the visible speed difference.

Now I may never install that adapter card with USB2 on it :-)

As for why USB is in more machines?  It's not the first time, the 
good guy lost :-)  Folks at Intel must have invested money into the 
development and now must re-coup it, by making sure it is used on 
WinTel systems.  It's called corporate strategy :-)  You get, what 
you get.
