There's something been on my mind since this thread started, but I didn't mention it as I don't know how it relates to a P4 motherboard.

On the power supply, there are 2 or 3, square shaped, 4 pin connectors. These connectors are interchangeable, but only one (or 2

They say that when a good automobile mechanic (or anyone who takes things apart and reassembles them) has parts left over, he has not done the job properly.

This is not true with typical computer power supply units. You most likely will have connectors left over. Most connectors will not fit in the wrong socket. This does not apply to some Dell 20 pin connectors that have been wired different from standard. Those will fit and burn up your power supply and perhaps your motherboard etc. if you hook the wrong power supply to the wrong motherboard. Check the color of each wire on these, comparing the new power supply 20 pin wiring to the old power supply wiring. If ALL colors do not match, DO NOT hook it up!

Others, correct me if I am wrong, but you are pretty safe on the other wires. If there is a place on the motherboard for a wire to hook up, hook it up. If not, then you will have a wire or two left over.
