Now I know you're off your rocker. :)

Writing requires a discipline that not only pays careful attention to the
mechanics in terms of spelling and proper use of English grammar and
punctuation but to how well thoughts are organized, sentences are constructed
and how paragraphs along with their words convey a meaning or a message that
the author wants the reader to see.

I think I take exception to just about every thing in that paragraph - there is
an thing called "copy editor" that handles that boring crap. :)
To me, the difference between writing an email and being a "real" author is
that someone pays a real author to write longer 'messages' - well, maybe not
necessarily pays - for publication in a professional manner. Rick could easily
take the contents of the emails he writes and use them as a basis for a longer
article and publish it - and be a writer. He could also publish his letters
as-is and be called a writer, although that generally works best with juicy
letters to a girlfriend. <g>
The only thing between anyone here and a writing career is a publishing medium
and anyone can easily start their own email newsletter to build their
reputation. A *lot* die early on because of low circulation though...
Now back to writing my newsletter which is supposed to go out today. :(
