No, You should not have to touch the settings for your MB ports since
this drive is not connected to them. The subject says it is an external HD.

In my BIOS, (an Award BIOS), I go to the PnP/PCI Configuration page.
In that page, there is a setting "Reset Configuration Data". This is a
"one-time" reset. It toggles itself (back to disabled) after it "runs" once...

That may or may not help.  It "can't" hurt...
