I basically agree with the below except to clear up confusion, to "view &
edit" one must have both passwords and not as stated below, i.e. "> The
second password allows full access to view and edit." However it was stated
correctly in the sentence following.

Another workaround does not require cut & paste but only do a "Save as",
give it another name and delete the pwd under options before the save.

One feature in W97 (do not know if in WXp but I would think so.), it under
"Tools" "Protect Document" Three options are given, i.e. track changes,
comments & forms. Track changes and comments are similar in that they do not
allow the reader to make permanent changes to the doc. Track changes are
inserted which show as a different color and line in it. The author can
later accept or not accept the changes. Comments are inserted no in the doc
body but as a Comment. Both of these options can be cut and pasted into
another doc as mentioned for pwd protect "modify" on saving.

However, the third option, i.e. forms, will not allow the reader to change
the body of the doc (unless the area was created as a form field for things
like invoices, etc.) and the reader can not cut & paste with this option
since the cursor is fixed. Using the Save As function keeps the doc
protected in "Form" option. The doc can be opened with notepad but it shows
all the control functions so can not be easily cut and paste form there and
if changed can not be saved in doc format.

I feel this last option give quite a bit of security. However, as with any
method, a good hacker can beat it if nothing more than re-creating the
document from scratch.
