Thanks, Rick, I ended up using Ken's suggested AudaCity 1.2.3 which did everything I wanted to do .. it can cut up .wav files (though, they still end up very large) and it can also export to MP3, which significantly reduces the size and it also can be used to transcribe since it can be start/stopped with either the space bar or the "pause button" on the tool bar. It is a really good free tool .. they also sell a professional version for true audiophiles instead of people like me who want to make several friends aware of what was said in a court hearing involving my next door neighbor from hell.
Thanks, again to all of you. I think Nero will also do this, but it is buried deep in one of their programs and menus. Rick Glazier From: "Roger Helbig" I have a 59 minute long audio file that I would like to cut into smaller sections. Can this be done using some type of readily available free software?
