XP-Pro w/ auto-update enabled, running on Intel 845WN MB
1. When running lengthy process, such a s full system scan w/ NAV, at some
point the screen goes to black and nothing responds; appears similar to
hibernate. I need to restart. Hibernate is enabled to work with my battery
backup but is set to "never" for frequency. Since the machine is completely
non-responsive is there any way I can tell if it actually is in hibernation?
Either way, any thoughts on how I can prevent this?
2. When running a full backup (Dantz-Maxtor Express HD) the system will freeze
up and needs to be rebooted. The cursor locks up and the icon motion stops.
CPU usage is not unusually high when this happens; don't know about other
resources. This is not like some situations where machine appears sluggish and
responds in a herky-jerky fashion (cursor may freeze momentarily but then
starts moving again). Once in a while this freeze appears to be connected to
cursor movement; ok so long as I don't do anything but when I attempt to move
the cursor the system freezes.
Sorry for rambling but obviously I don't have any understanding of what's
happening.
TIA,
Harry
