Have you tried a different printer driver?
Brother's latest drivers for the HL-1030 are here:
http://solutions.brother.com/hl1200/download/drivers1030.html

However, I have better luck with their generic PCL4 driver:

I don't print checks, but I've printed just about everything else
with my HL-1030. I did increase the printer's memory by several MB.

Now however when she attempts to print cheques, nothing happens, any reports and such print fine. Printing a cheque results in a job showing up in the printer queue (Brother HL1030 connected direct via LPT cable) for like 10 seconds and then disappearing. All other printing is fine. I've looked at the printer setup in SA and it's as it should be.

The only way I could get the cheques to print is to set the printer properties to print direct to the printer without spooling. Anyone seen this before?
