Karen,

I took your suggestion to order from abcink.com and got their 5 pack deal of
non-OEM cartridges ..

Got the printer itself back to working by using the "Windex" method suggested
by Francis Harvey but used Isopropyl Alcohol instead .. turns out that the
printer insisted on having both black and color cartridges (even when black
only was selected for printing) in order to decide to print (but it gave an
indication that it might have a corrupted driver by suggesting that the
computer connection was faulty in some way, not that it was out of ink or that
the cartridges were "dry" (the color one apparently was!) so the first thing I
did was reload the driver from the CD (and of course nothing happened).

Thanks to all .. now, I can take the much higher priced cartridge back to the
local major name office supply and get a refund.

I've had 3 Epson printers and I find that if you take the cartridge out and
shake it and put it back, it will print for a while afterwards. However, I do
find it difficult to get it to put the cartridges in a position where I can
grab them. I press the button and they come out but go right back into where
they cant be reached.

I have been quite pleased with
 http://abcink.com/ (see $1.00 Ink Zone)
I ordered 3 cartridges at $1.00 each and paid $3.00 even though the shipping
cost them $2.00. Never did figure out how they could afford that!
