On a very serious note, and speaking from the
land of Id books and passports (South Africa): we
have had these for ever. Today we have so many
muggings, rapes, armed robberies, murders,
highjackings and our government department has
just issued the stats that more than 50% of the
driving licences in our country are fake. One can
buy a Passport or ID or drivers licence for R500
from any parking lot. (same goes for university
degrees, but I digress) Passports and IDs are
stolen daily and when they are re-issued 27% of
re-issues have people married to foreigners they
dont know and dont care to know. Gun licences are
very harsh but we have almost 70% illegal guns in
our country. Unfortunately these IDs you will be
getting just make criminals smarter and the
criminal element richer by providing the cards.
Our country is now considering using fingerprint
scans and retinal maps instead of signatures. Its
all very scary, perhaps it will all end with the
proverbial number on our foreheads.
