Bad analogy - sticks are fun to drive. :)

Except when you're going uphill & have to stop at a light.

Users don't want to tinker with the computer - they just want the damn
thing to work and the only thing maunal updates does is make it harder
(or makes it seem more geeky) for newbies and non-geeks to use the
computer.

Who wants to find the keys for the ignition ? I sure hope they got the automatic seat belts as well. ;-)

OBTW wasn't it MSFT that held back several updates & then a few months later decided they were critical not too long ago. I for one like having my own life in my own hands & not some one else's. If it were up to the doctors I would've been gone 20yrs ago so I do have a reason to feel the way that I do.

FWIW it's been my experience that most people that get them buggies are a result of shooting themselves in the foot. If they'd stay away from email attachments, adult & gaming cheat sites as much as they could then there wouldn't be so many problems. While I know you're the exception most people can carefully stay away from email attachments. Even Outlook & OE [iirc] allows one to only download small amounts of an email message & I find that stops three quarters or more of the attempted trojans.

Sorry but the Internet is not a safe place to play as it use to be & one has to be care-full just like driving a car. One has to watch out for the idiots as it doesn't always pay to be right as one can be right & still get hit by some fool as it only pays to play safe & even then one can get plowed into from behind but there is far less chance of that then all the other types of accidents combined [except at traffic lights & even then it's usually less severe].
