Diane,

I've had some problems running USB2 devices with long (5mtr) cables that date 
from the USB 1.1 era,
but you shouldn't have any problems running a printer with normal 3 metre USB 
cables.
I'm currently running a HP2550 on a 3 Metre cable that cost �6 from the local 
Maplins store.
