The micro-filters supplied by SBC are designed to handle the ringing current of one phone. If you have 5 or 6 phone devices (don't forget DirecTVs, TiVos, etc.), you can't expect a single micro-filter to handle all the phone devices in the house. It will burn out before one year is up. Why do you suppose the so-called "whole house" ADSL filters are much huskier and typically cost $35?
Good point Gary. The author of the cited article is not using a true whole house filter and risks burning out the modem's built-in filter by using it as a whole house filter.
