Do you have any data floppy diskettes that are still in your disk drive? If so remove. Windows XP's CHKNTFS will check the first non-removable disk or either 3.5 inch floppy or ZIP disk that it finds if they are found present in the disks drives upon bootup. Otherwise Windows XP will assume that its already installed and will continue the normal boot process.

Of course, I'm over 60 and therefore entitled to senior moments. I finally bit the bullet and installed SP2 on my XP-Pro system. Drive C: is a Western Digital 40GB, formatted FAT32. Drive D: is a Seagate 100GB, formatted NTFS. Drive D: is where I keep my documents, my downloads and the majority of my applications. Some dating back to 1992. I have ALL the MS updates installed. After installing SP2: on startup, it does a disk check of the NTFS drive every time. WHY? This was not happening before installing SP2. Just extremely puzzled, Robert -- ---------------------------------------- The WIN-HOME list is hosted on a Windows 2000(TM) machine running L-Soft international's LISTSERV(R) software.
