Fonts must stay in the "font" folder but there are several programs that
will allow you to install and remove fonts as and when you need them.
remember fonts are loaded when windows starts and take memory. Also if you
have more than 800 fonts installed, which is very easy to do with all the
variations in bold, italic, superscript etc... programs like Adobe Page
maker 5, and 6 won't install or run. I think windows XP has over come this
problem as I have Page maker 6.5 with about 1200 fonts installed.

I now use Quark (industry standard for the Apple publishing systems
although you must use the MT versions of fonts if the commercial print is
to be anything like what you see on screen) as it the only reliable way to
get my publications in real print even if I use Acrobat to make a PDF and
it is typeset using the Apple there is always a problem with the damned
fonts.
