How can a clickable "Tinyurl" directory-path link be generated for
accessing local files from "mini links" embedded in documents,
indexes, or databases, etc. ?
That's not quite as easy to do, though it could be very useful in
innumerable ways.
If writing an script file one could use something like
Set A1 ="C:\Program Files\This is my app\and your .exe"
Other script commands like
if exist "%userprofile%"\locals~1\tempor~1\*.* goto jump1
if not exist "%userprofile%"\locals~1\tempor~1\*.* goto jump2
Most of these will work inside spreadsheets but make sure you consult the
help for the exact command & it's parameters.
As for documents if those docs are html then you can embed a UNC or local
path instead of an Internet one. This is very easy to do in Frontpage. I
click the header bar in TC [total commander] & copy the address then click
in FP & hit Ctrl K which is the hotkey combo for HyperLink. At the top you
put the short key combo you want & at the bottom of the popup you put the
UNC or Local path. With more & more apps using html I'm certain you can
find away to create these custom menu's & if nothing else embed them.
In other cases many apps that can create menus can do some of what you want.
These are a few examples but I am sorry there is no one TinyURL that works
in every case.
OBTW did I tell you that I hate TinyURL as I find that most people use it
instead of the < & > to enclose their URLs ? Just yesterday my better half
sent me a link with < & > & it only took several years for her to start
using the less\more than keys in email.
One thing I love about computers is almost anything is doable & can be made
easier if one wants to spend the time to learn the ins & outs. Did I tell
you about the solution to the problem I had scanning for viruses on a NTFS
partition when Windows wouldn't boot? <lol>
