I dislike them in mail, news, or forums because you can hide a bad site with 
them - and too many people won't include the full url when they use the tiny 
one (not that it proves the tiny one is ok, but at least you might have a clue 
where it goes). 

I do like them for redirects on my website - especially for affiliate links (to 
hide the long link code) - and for mailto's to help reduce spam. (use 
mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] as the long url - click the http tiny url and it fires 
the mailto.)
