Yes, it is definitely worth the trouble. Some people had problems, most 
people did not. Why fool around downloading SP2 when you can simply order a 
free CD from Microsoft at:
<http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/sp2/cdorder/en_us/  
default.mspx>
As others have said, it contains both SP1 and SP2 and will install what 
your machine needs.
