It also can be set to distinguish between voice mail and a fax, so that way
if he has a phone answering device it will pick up his voicemail too.

Bingo! I was at his house today and the PSC 950 does have the ability to
autoanswer! He had it set a 6 rings, so his answering machine was
getting there first. I reset it to 2 and it will be tested by his
partner who has access to a fax machine at work.
