I just installed a scanjet scanner per instructions from HP that said "install BEFORE". It failed 3 times. I then restored the registry to before installation one more time and connected the scanner and then directed the Found New Hardware to the drivers and it worked.
Of course I did not want any of the apps on the CD installed. Was at wits end and the client said try it again the way I suggested as a possible way. It worked...Thank you, God. Go figure. One reason I do not recommend HP scanners. Have more problems installing them than any other.
