Subject: Re: 400g SATA HDs
OEMs (and OEM drives) are different, they get a better
price and "no" warranty... (They provide their own?)
OEM's have choices. I can buy drives from ASI http://www.asipartner.com/ my
wholesale supplier with a 1 year warranty or pay more and get a longer
warranty. I was buying Western Digital's with a 3 year warranty until I
found I could buy Seagate with a 5 year warranty, which I do now.
It does not matter to the customer whether the OEM has to fund the warranty
or the hard drive manufacturer. What does matter to the end user is:
The length of the warranty.
Will the OEM or the hard drive manufacturer make a in-warranty exchange of a
good drive for a bad drive or do both handle these exchanges for you? Some
end users appreciate having recourse (exchang privileges) with the hard
drive manufacturer, especially if their small OEM goes out of business.
