I just double checked: I ran wmp as adminstrator, just in case the file
types stuff only shows up with it is running as admin... and still no
dice.  I'm actually pretty surprised: considering that WMP can/does
support a breathtaking variety of file types, I find it odd that there's
no obvious place where you can tell it which files it should be messing
with...  I must be missing something obvious  [again: this with WMP 10]

I'm late to this thread but could it be Tools/Options/File Types/ that you're looking for ?
