Simply leaving a feature or a function out of Windows Vista or any other YTBR (Yet To Be Released) OS product for fear of vulnerability and security issues doesn't fix the problem it does just the opposite: It only makes matters worse in terms of product delays, huge development costs and missed RTM ship dates.
Software companies such as Microsoft are only in the business to do two things: Make a good product and lots of profit from selling those products to consumers. In Microsoft's veiwpoint they realized that WinFS would be in fact too complex and time consumming if not costly to implement into the first Beta of Windows Vista and too costly in terms of developers hours paid to build it. They also realized that due to the time limitations and development costs associated with developing and implementing WinFS they decided to drop it and instead offer it as a possibly free service pack for Windows XP once Windows Vista comes out of beta and goes into RTM. Calling Microsoft lame in this reguard is unfair because software companies such as Microsoft have to make these decisions almost every day to stay competitive in the software business, take risks, spend money on R&D, market research, advertising and distribution and all of these things in which every business does takes lots if not millions of dollars to do it and how do they do it? Proper management practices in development, R&D, manhours, supplies which drives costs and product feasibility to make sure that the product will succede of fail in the market they target the product(s)for. You and I work for companies, non-profits and other organizations to provide for our bottom line: Simply money. The company doesn't care weather or not you enjoy working for it because in return to the company we work for it to earn it. My bottom line is simply I work to make money to spend, enjoy and save it however I so choose to do so. The campany can care less about how you enjoy spending it or making it as long as you work for it. Things to think about before making judgements on a company which may not be true. If you research the company with the most powerful tool at your fingertips, the Internet, you'd be surprised that you can be proven wrong about your judgements about a particular software company in most cases if not some. Costs and profits are the primary motives behind almost every business and to just lable a business lame while its sometimes underpaid and overworked employees who do all of the work to research, develope, market and sell you a product in which you and others may like to purchase is the sole reason why the companies exists to make a profit. If you don't like a product that a company is selling you then you have the power of your wallet to go someware else and buy it. Company A developes product A researches a potential market to buy product A, sells and advertises product A in which terms consumer buys product A if they so choose to. It amazes me sometimes how people as so fast to jump to criticize a company for being lame for just dropping one piece of a product and yet sometimes forget without even asking what makes a company run and that they have the one power that no company can control: the wallet and the Internet. The same can be siad for politics and politicians, bad TV, magazines and the like. If you don't like a product be it software or hardware then buy somewhere else. All I am saying here is you have the power of the wallet so if you don't like Windows then buy Mac OS. Its your choice and your wallet. The power of the internet and wallet makes you, the wise consumer happy as a result of buying the satifactory product of your choice, company A happy as a result of the profit from the sale and the advertisers happy as a result for making a sucessful marketing campaign in order to bring the product to you so that you may use and or enjoy using it as you see fit. As far as to the consumer who's only concerns are a good price, good and well supported product that's the consumer's bottom line. As far as the company is concerned its low cost labor, low cost R&D, low cost marketing equals high dividends to its shareholders and high profits to its investors. That may sound cruel but in reality to the business world it's the bottom line. -----Original Message----- From: Windows Home/SOHO [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of joeuser Sent: Saturday, August 06, 2005 3:27 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: One way to deal with Vista vulnerabilities...
