Back in the good ol' days on the Illiac things were easy compared to today. I figured that some things on my new system were trivial -- certainly the choice of a PSU should be a snap. The overall design criteria is that of versatility -- I don't want to be stuck in the future with an avoidable deficiency now.

So the Antec Neo Power 480 watt PSU ought to be perfect. No? Inconceivable that I should need more than that power or facility in the foreseeable future. Isn't it?

So here is this article in Extreme Tech -- 18 Jul 2005

http://www.extremetech.com/print_article2/0,1217,a=156218,00.asp

where the builder uses an 850 watt PSU "just in case"!!! At a cost of $470!!!

Good grief , Folks, would I ever need 850 watts "just in case" in my new system???

If you look at the article, maybe you could comment on the other parts used. It looks as if he has chosen the most expensive stuff he could find -- along with a flashing billboard on his RAM sticks.
