Wayne,

Thanks for the info on Winimage
and the reminder about XpPe / BartPe
and as that's on a CD, you don't have to worry about it being 'interfered
with, or just erased

Re Intel and AMD
Main points from my viewpoint
AMD seemed to be power-hungry compared to the Intel equivalents
Yes I could get an AMD CPU and more powerful PSU and still save money over
an Intel CPU
But you have to consider the electricity bill, and additional AMD related
heating in the house during summer

I usually suggest to my clients that they should not buy the fastest
processors, and biggest drives
go for the top of the cheap/midrange products - and get a good motherboard
and multiple disk drives
usually the advantage of 2 disk drives far outweighs the CPU performance
missing from a £200 CPU as opposed to a £500 one
Not only can you get a 300GB drive but you can also get TV and a better
screen for the £300 difference

Unless you really want to spend lots on a top of the range (over)powered
gaming system :-
1000Watt PSU,
Argon? chilled, overclocked (not quite overcooked?) system with dual 400GHz
64 bit CPU's,
15000rpm Ultra SCSI Raid 5 array,
4GB memory, and a dual ( multiprocessor video board with a 40 " screen,
total surround sound - 20" bass speakers etc.
( or those B&O things that just vibrate the walls directly )
13" fans (hopefully big enough) for cooling the cooler,
Windows and a door strong enough to keep out the neighbours and police
