20+ GB to burn DL DVDs? - assuming that you are going to let the system use
space on the OS partition for buffering etc as it cache's files or builds an
ISO image

My (very) basic calculations for OS partition:

5Gb for the OS - with all those extra utilities, drivers and 'common' dll's
9Gb for DVD cache or ISO image - unless you can persuade your system to do
ALWAYS do the buffering etc. elsewhere
2Gb approx for 'Windows Recovery' - pre-update/change files
(Possibly lots more if you are using Symantec Goback).
1Gb Pagefile
2Gb? hiber.sys file - well it takes slightly more than the system memory if
you have hibernate enabled
( if you disable hibernate, check after the re-boot that it has deleted
the hiber.sys file)
and then there is your 'user data' etc. - My documents, My Pictures Temp
directories and storage... for each user.

I used to reckon 7Gb for a working 2K instance with all installs, email,
temp and user store areas pointed to other partitions
and no Goback, or other Windows recovery details held on that partition
Then we got NTFS with it's control indexing and Caches
Then we got DVD's - add 4.5Gb
Then we got DL DVD's another 4.5Gb

20Gb seems to be about right to me
But it's up to you what you put onto the OS partition, and how muuch you
want to do space maintenance and facility control.
