A follow-on to the thread - mainly for inclusion in the archive

I got a 'Patriot' system from PCWorld -
Mainly because it's ASUS board offers lots of boot options,
the case has 4 external 5ΒΌ slots, and room for an extra fan

No floppy with the system so I got a cable and drive from an old system
(Circa win95 )
The @__+)_(**^% thing would not recognise the floppy properly -
floppy fail (80) and (40)
Nothing wrong with the cable or drive - they work in my W2K system

Eventually, a pack of bits for other systems arrived, including a new floppy
and cable

Fitted them - and the system recognises the floppy properly !
Fitted the old floppy - and that now works !
fitted the old cable - and back to the Floppy fail -

So it seems that the new system doesn't like the old cable

- either because it's old?, or because it's a dual drive cable !
