The card has three possible modes for authentications:
   1) WECA compliant
   2) auto based on WEP

But either the Westell is not broadcasting or the NIC is not receiving. Doesn't that have to occur before we authenticate?

I don't know what WECA compliant is as I've never heard of it. I suppose you could Google for it. But this confirms what I've been saying. If I offer my hand out for a handshake & you don't even offer to return your hand then there is no chance of a handshake & that's what you have now. One has Wep enabled while the other does Not. I'd enable WEP with the minimum encryption available on both & see if you can get them to at least shake hands.

OK, I have a connection. Here's the configuration:

WPC NIC
        WECA compliant
        No WEP or other authentication

Westell
        Security disabled.

Now, I would like to get some security on this. Westell offers these
        WPA-PSK or
WEP (Open system or shared key)

The WPC offers
        WECA complaint (always .....)
        Auto based on WEP
        Must use shared with WEP

Should I try open system and auto?
