I just finished doing a complete update via Microsoft's

I suppose that it's way too late to install SP2 and that all
the updates that have been done have included everything that
SP2 updated and more?
It's not too late, and nope, not even close. :) The only way to
update to SP2 is by installing the SP2 update. Afterward, all
SP2 specific updates need to be installed.
Probably better to download the so-called "full" SP2 update
version, otherwise known as "Windows XP Service Pack 2 Network
Installation Package for IT Professionals and Developers". It's
272 MB worth of "full". :) The full SP2 update version will
update any XP machine to SP2, even if the machine is 'off-line'
at the moment. Full SP2 update version:

Click on the Download button and save the SP2 update file to
the hard drive, regardless of what the web page "advises". :)
After installing the SP2 update, visit the Windows Update web
site to install the remaining critical updates.
Thanks. Will do!
