About what I expected, let it run, it may take several hours or overnight,
or 
even longer depending on how badly the filesystem is mangled. OTOH, if the 
drive is mangled/defective, it may never finish.....

You should actually use the /R switch to have it relocate bad sectors.  That

makes it take even longer than the /F switch.

Actually, I'd recommend running the manufacturers diag on the drive first, 
then doing chkdsk /R, IF the drive passes the manufacturers test.  The test 
may say there are bad sectors, do not have it repair, let chkdsk handle
that. 
If it doesn't say the drive itself it defective, you should be fine running 
chkdsk.

If the drive fails the manufacturers test, I'd recommend immediately did a 
bit by bit ghost image of the drive (tell ghost to ignore bad sectors) and 
then try a chkdsk /R.
